Senior photos are a big deal. They mark the end of one chapter and the beginning of the next, and they’re often the images that end up on graduation announcements, walls at home, and yes—Instagram. A little preparation goes a long way in making sure your senior photo shoot feels relaxed, fun, and totally you.

Here’s how to get ready so you can show up confident and camera‑ready.

Choose Outfits That Feel Like You

The best senior photos don’t look trendy—they look timeless. When picking outfits, think about what you feel good wearing, not just what’s popular right now.

Tips for outfits:

  • If your photographer has planned for it, bring 2–3 looks as agreed with your photographer. one casual, one dressy, and one that shows personality. Remember , if you’re planning a beach session be sure and to lean toward bright colors that stand out against the sand,. blue water and sky (hopefully the the weather will cooperate and be on your side).

  • Stick to solid colors or subtle patterns

  • Avoid large logos, graphics, or busy prints Bright pastels always look good on the beach

  • Layers (jackets, cardigans, vests) add variety fast

  • Make sure everything fits well and is wrinkle‑free

Lay your outfits out a few days before your session to make sure everything works together.

Plan Hair and Makeup Ahead of Time

Whether you’re doing your own hair and makeup or hiring a professional, keep things natural and polished.

  • Go slightly more defined than everyday makeup (cameras soften details)

  • Avoid trying a brand‑new look the day of your shoot

  • Bring makeup for quick touch‑ups. don't forget a hairbrush in case you need to tame your hair

If you’re unsure, a quick trial run before your session can make a huge difference.

Get a Good Night’s Sleep (Seriously)

Rest matters more than people realize. Being well‑rested helps reduce under‑eye circles, keeps skin looking fresh, and makes it easier to relax in front of the camera.

Bring Meaningful Props (If You Want)

Props aren’t required—but they are a great way to make your photos personal.

Ideas include:

  • Sports gear or uniforms

  • Musical instruments

  • Letterman jackets

  • Books, cameras, or art supplies

  • Pets (yes, pets are always a win)

If it’s something that represents who you are right now, it belongs in your photos.

Trust Your Photographer

You don’t need to know how to pose—that’s our job. We’ll guide you with natural prompts, help with posture, and make adjustments so you look your best.

The more you trust the process, the more authentic your photos will feel.

Most Important: Relax and Have Fun

Senior photos should never feel stressful. This is your moment to celebrate how far you’ve come. Laugh, move around, and don’t worry about being “perfect.”

The best images happen when you’re comfortable, confident, and being yourself.
